FAQs

FAQS

  • How much should I expect to spend on a website?

Website prices range greatly depending on the size of the company/organization and what you need. Most small businesses and non-profilts should expect to spend $3500 to $8000 for average size (total depends on how large the site is and how many extras you want). But, truly, it’s not just the website you are looking at. When determining how much to spend, consider your goal for the website. Assuming your goal is to attract and convert more visitors to clients, it really is critical to look at SEO when setting up a website. You will not be found just by having a website onlline. A certain amount of SEO is necessary for that website to show up during searches. Therefore, you should plan on additional funds to put toward SEO.

  • What should I consider when picking a Website Developer?

There are a lot of people out there who are promoting website development as their primary business or side hustle. And, as with any service provider, there can be vast differences from one to the next. Here are the areas we feel you should consider:

    • Website & SEO Expertise: You are probably thinking that I am going to say something about technical expertise here, but I am not. If you want a truly successful sales and marketing-oriented website, you need a Website and SEO Expert - someone who not only knows how to develop your website to look nice, but can also put the right SEO tools in place to attract and convert new clients and new INCOME for you. This should be an investment in your sales and marketing budget, not an expense.
    • Developer Portfolio: Additionally, check out their portfolio. Before even talking to a Web Developer, you should know if you even LIKE their work. If you look at examples of their sites and they don’t resonate with you, move on. If they don’t even provide examples, move on. If you love what you see, talk to them!
    • Developer Personality: This may sound odd, but we feel it is important that you RELATE to the person you are working with. You are unique and your website is very personal to you and your business or organization. It must reflect your brand and what you are trying to accomplish. Therefore, it is important that the person you work with “get” it and “get” you. If you talk to the Developer and you don’t feel they understand you, or maybe they aren’t even trying to understand you and your goals, you should probably move on.
    • Platform: A very important consideration is also the platform. MOST Web Developers who develop for small businesses and non-profits develop in WordPress…for a number of reasons. WordPress allows for the easiest combination of templates and customization for the Developer and is one of the most commonly used among Web Developers. However, it has a lot of downsides and is not the best platform for most small businesses and non-profits. Specifically, WordPress (1) requires someone (usually the Developer) to host the site, (2) it requires regular updating of ALL plugins in order to stay functional and secure, something most small organizations don’t have the time or knowledge to do so you end up dependent on the Developer, and (3) it is fairly difficult to update yourself, also making you dependent long-term on the Developer. We develop primarily in a platform called Duda, which is fairly similar to Wix in operation, but with much of the functionality offered with WordPress. We also do work in Wix, Squarespace, and Shopify for websites that are already built and need updating. The advantage to using Duda is that it is self-contained so no updates or special hosting are required. They are also fairly easy for you to update if you choose to support your own website once it is built.
    • Quality Control, Guarantees, Revisions: What does the company offer in terms of quality control, guarantees, and revisions? We often hear about companies who only allow a limited number of revisions when building websites. In our opinion, if you are not happy with the website, that is on US, NOT YOU. If we didn’t capture what you were looking for and you don’t feel your site is EXCEPTIONAL, we didn’t do our job in getting to know you and what you were looking for – upfront and throughout the process! We don’t even show you the website until we feel it is exceptional. Then, when you review it, we revise ANY area (within the original scope of work) you are not happy with. And once it goes live, we offer that guarantee for SIXTY (60) DAYS. At the end of the day, what is most important is you loving the final product!
    • Price: We list price last because it should NOT be your first consideration. You can absolutely find someone to do your website for CHEAP! You can also find someone to do it for thousands of dollars. It is important to consider all of the factors above and your budget. If you can’t afford to pay for a quality Developer, honestly, you should probably wait until you can! Don’t waste your money on a website you are going to be unhappy with and feel stuck with because you needed to save money.
  • What platform should I use for my website? Is WordPress the best option?

Most Website Developers for small business and non-profit websites develop in WordPress. Unfortunately, though, WordPress is typically not the right platform for most smaller organizations. WordPress is a highly complex platform that has much higher security risk, requires extensive ongoing maintenance, requires a much higher level of technical ability (or ongoing support from a Web Developer who truly understands coding and the technical intricacies of WordPress), and advanced skills in learning new technology. In my experience, I have found that small businesses and non-profits much prefer an easier-to-manage platform. That is why we develop on Duda (www.duda.co), which is similar to Wix or Squarespace, but better designed for SEO and with exceptional customer support.

  • What website platforms do you support?

We primarily develop on the Duda platform, and will also build new websites in Wix and Squarespace. We will also refresh, update, and support websites in Wix, Squarespace, Shopify, and Kajabi and any other self-contained platforms. We do not build, update, or support WordPress websites. Our SEO tools will work with ANY platform, including WordPress.

  • How does hosting work?

If we develop your website on Duda, you will pay us for your website hosting. Your first year will be included in the price of the website. For the second year, you have the option of pre-paying $255 upfront (in the final website invoice) or $25 per month. You can also add one hour of support/updates to your monthly invoice for a discounted total of $125 per month. (Time not used each month is accumulated for use at a later time.)

All other hosting will be paid directly to the platform used.

  • How long does it take you to develop a new website?

Our process is usually 6-8 weeks from signing of the agreement to Go Live for standard 10-page websites. Sites with less complexity can take as little as 4 weeks and more complex sites average 8-12 weeks.

  • Will my website look right on mobile devices?

Yes! We customize your website to look just as great on mobile and tablet as it does on a desktop!

  • Will I own my website and will I be able to update it?

Yes! Once your website is complete and final payment has been made, your site will go live and we will give you full access to the website. You can edit, change, and update as much as you like. You can even move it if you like. We also provide video training to cover the basics for updating and supporting your website once it is complete.

  • What do I do about a domain name (URL)?

If you are already using a URL or have purchased one from a respectable company, we can easily re-direct the URL to point to your new website. If you have not purchased your URL or are unhappy with your current provider, we recommend getting your URL through Domain.com. You can also get custom email through Google Workspace while you are there. We discourage using GoDaddy for your domain.

  • Should I have a custom email (or multiple emails) using my URL?

Speaking of custom email… Yes, you absolutely should have a custom email! This is one of the first things we will ask you about because we feel it is so important. A custom email that uses your URL is, more than anything, a statement of professionalism. Like your website, it helps establish your business or organization as legitimate. Honestly, it is a small investment that makes a huge difference in terms of perception.

  • How do I get a custom email and how much does it cost?

We recommend getting your custom email (Google Workspace account) through Google. You can add it to the same account you register your domain with and Google will invoice you $6 per month (for the Business Starter plan) for each email you purchase for your business. With Google Workspace, you also get Google Sheets, Google Docs, free cloud space, and the ability to easily share data with others inside and outside your organization.

  • Can I have videos, documents, forms, podcasts, and/or blogs on my website?

Yes to all of the above! Videos work individually or as a link to sites such as YouTube or Vimeo. Documents can be viewed on or downloaded from your site. Forms collect information and send it to your email and/or your Google Sheets, MailChimp, or Zapier to other CRMs for storage. Blogs can be directly hosted on your site, and we can set up a custom RSS feed to your podcast host for your podcasts.

  • Can I schedule appointments through my website?

Yes! We have packages for setting up Squarespace Scheduling (formerly Acuity Scheduling) (www.acuityscheduling.com),  Calendly, Vcita, or any other online scheduler to allow your clients to easily access a designated calendar and schedule appointments. (And, with Vcita, scheduling appointments is just the beginning!) You can also set up events or group appointments on your website.)

  • How does security work?

We include an SSL Certificate free with hosting, something that your potential customers and Google pay close attention to! Per Network Solutions (http://www.networksolutions.com/education/what-is-an-ssl-certificate/), “An SSL Certificate (Secure Sockets Layer), also called a Digital Certificate, creates a secure link between a website and a visitor's browser. By ensuring that all data passed between the two remains private and secure, SSL encryption prevents hackers from stealing private information such as credit card numbers, names and addresses. If you sell products or services on your website and accept credit cards online, you need an SSL Certificate for website security.” (Note: Some platforms do not include an SSL certificate so you should always check!)

  • What is SEO?

According to Dictionary.com, SEO or Search Engine Optimization is “the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring that the site appears high on the list of results returned by a search engine.” This is obtained through content on your website, social media, and several tools available from Google. Basic SEO is available through customizable SEO controls for each page of your website. Tracking is done through the website itself, but improved tracking should be implemented through adding a Google Analytics code so you have a better feel for where your clients are generated from. As part of setting up your website, we do the basic setup. However, we highly recommend purchasing our SEO services to ensure your new website is found!
